I love RSS.

I’ve used it for many years to track the content I’m interested in. On my own terms, free from algorithmic meddling. I used Google Reader until it shut down, then switched over to Feedly. Recently, I’ve become frustrated with the direction Feedly is going in (why do I need AI features in a feed reader?), so started shopping around for a replacement. What I found was a lack of the basic reader I was looking for.

My original idea was to build my own, which I started on and progressed to a semi-usable state. But I figured there must be a simpler, more efficient solution. I have so many projects on the go, starting another unfinished one did not seem like a good idea.

I asked Claude, which led me to FreshRSS, an open-source and self hostable feed aggregator. I’ve recently installed a UGREEN DH2300 NAS at home, which is perfectly capable of hosting a small service like this.
